Taiwanese
semiconductor IC Assembly & Testing manufacturer
uses MES to deliver quality products & services. |
A high tech Taiwanese company meets the challenge
of an extremely competitive semiconductor marketplace
by integrating its business applications.
Working
with CIT CIM Consulting Services, Advanced Semiconductor
Engineering Inc. Installed Factoryworks 2.4 on Compaq
hardware platform to establish a scalable, single point
of control. By gaining the advantage of flexible manufacturing
work flow and aggressive process technology, the company
strengthened its ability to deliver quality products
on a timely basis, with profitable results.
In Taiwan, the management of a well-established high
tech company meet the challenges of the competitive
semiconductor marketplace. The company went looking
for a business solution that was flexible enough to
keep up with changing demands.
At Advanced Semiconductor Engineering,Inc. (ASE), the
initial response was a decision to implement an Manufacturing
Execution System (MES) solution to streamline manufacturing
operations. ASE chose Factoryworks, the MES application
of choice among most of Taiwan's semiconductor companies,
which would integrate all of its business management
applications.
Once ASE decided on its MES solution, it had to find
the right services provider to implement it. ASE warned
a recognized vendor with a proven track record in Taiwan
- CIT CIM Consulting Services fit that description.
A record for excellence
The decisions were made by the company's IT executives
team in semiconductor technology. Dr. S. M. Shen ,CIO,
has 20 years of experience in technology and management.
By combining leadership with his IT expertise team,
they have built ASE into a well-established company
in the semiconductor marketplace.
From its beginnings in 1984, ASE has emerged as an
integrated IC assembly & testing company with a
record for excellence in customer service on integrated
tests, packaging, assembly and product delivery. The
MES project is in line with the company's emphasis on
cutting edge and cost-effective manufacturing as it
turns out products that are advanced, competitive and
profitable -- delivered in a timely manner.
Praise for the solution
The solution delivered a scalable, single point of control
with Compaq hardware platform, which offers a broad
range of choices from its products. In practice, this
meant that the cost of hardware is modular and incremental.
ASE could install models in the development stage and
update them later in the field as needs dictate.
The rich functionality of Factoryworks and ease of
customization give ASE the capability of customizing
its operations to keep pace with changing demands in
its highly-competitive marketplace. The number of ASE
users will expand globally. CIT will be providing ongoing
maintenance, as well as a user support hot line. Overall,
the MES project provides efficient and flexible manufacturing
work flow and aggressive process technology.
In his positive report on the solution, MR. J.K. Chin,
the president of ASE Inc., has singled out the benefits
of solution consolidation and, in particular, praises
the scalability and switch technology as "very
good".
